La Repubblica delle Donne

D – La Repubblica delle Donne is the weekly women’s magazine supplement to the Italian daily newspaper la Repubblica.
D was launched on 21 May 1996 as a supplement but from early on it distinguished itself from typical women-magazines by combining fashion, beauty and style with serious journalism, culture, society and current affairs.
According to the English-language description from its advertising partner, "D is the weekly female magazine … that broke with traditional female magazines … The woman who reads D is a high-level confident person, with self-awareness and respect, living her own life … always searching new trend, fashion and style. A ‘sophisticated hunter’, well-educated, curious, intuitive and nonconformist woman".
Content & Style:
- The magazine features contributions from prominent journalists addressing politics, culture, society and fashion.
- High-quality photography, elegant graphic layout and premium paper were characteristic features.
- A major redesign was launched under editor Emanuele Farneti in early 2022, with a new format, logo, and renewed focus on image & journalism.
D has expanded to reach a global audience: as of November 2024, it will launch an English-language “collector” edition, bi-annual, featuring its best editorial and fashion content in a premium printed format.
The magazine identifies its ideal reader as a well-educated, self-aware woman who is curious about the world, lives her own life and keeps attention to fashion/ style not just as consumption but as part of culture and identity.
